View of East Mystic, Hoxie Square, and the bascule bridge, August 26, 1949, b&w print. The town was celebrating "Mystic Day." On the right is the Strand Theater, where the movies "Any Number Can Play", starring Alexis Smith, and "Tucson" were playing. The Noyes Dry Goods store, next to the theater, is decorated for the celebration. Between 1960 and 1975, all the buildings in the foreground were destroyed by fire. Newbury's (the large building behind the Coco Cola sign), the Strand Theater, Noyes Dry Goods, and Kinney's Jewelry burned in 1960. The hotel with the cupola burned in 1975.
