Denison Family in the Mystic, Connecticut Area
Object ID:
Jesse Ball Stinson Collection
Crewel work piece which is part of the crewel pieces made to go around the four poster bed at the Denison Homestead in Mystic. It is one of the skirt pieces which goes just below the canopy made of fine silk. It is framed and hanging over the fireplace in the East Chamber there.

The family folklore has it that this is a vestment made by Ann Borodell before her marriage to Captain George Denison. This is noted on the back of the photo but is wrong. We assume it is 18th C. and that it was made by Lucy Gallup Denison, if anyone. (per Helen Keith)
